Production of xylitol by yeasts
Xylitol is a naturally occuring sugar alcohol, which is currently produced chemically on a large scale. In recent years the bioconversion of D-xylose from lignocellulosic residues into xylitol, gained an increased attention as an alternative procedure , due to its high efficiency and reduced cost of such technology. The biotechnological method of producing xylitol involves microorganisms that a...
متن کاملPreparation of a Cell-Free, Isobutene-Forming System from Rhodotorula minuta.
The cell-free isobutene-forming system of Rhodotorula minuta IFO 1102 was prepared. This system consisted of isovaleric acid, NADPH, and a cell extract. The maximal activity obtained by using the described cell-free system was 17 nl/mg of protein per h. It appears that this cell-free isobutene-forming system operates in living cells of R. minuta.
متن کاملPurification and characterization of cytochrome P450 from an isobutene-forming microorganism, Rhodotorula minuta.
A cytochrome P450 was purified from microsomes of Rhodotorula minuta. The optical spectrum of the purified cytochrome was characteristic of a low-spin ferric heme protein. Isovalerate caused a type I spectral change in it. The amino-terminal sequence of the cytochrome was different from those of other known microsomal cytochrome P450s. These results indicate that the cytochrome, which is tentat...
متن کاملUtilization of date syrup as a substrate for carotenoid production by Rhodotorula glutinis
The potential use of date syrup, for the production of carotenoids by Rhodotorula glutinisin batch fermentation process, was investigated during 7 days. The results revealed that carbon (glucose or date syrup) and nitrogen sources [yeast extract, (NH4)2SO4 and NH4NO3] had a significant influence on biomass and carotenoid production. Maximum yield of total carotenoid production (7.94 mg/L) with ...
متن کاملAcetic acid production by DekkerajBrettallomyces yeasts
Yeast belonging to the genera Brettanom}'ces and Dekkera are noted for spoiling cellar and bottled wine through the production of haze, turbidity and acetic acid. However, I was unable to find information on the use of these yeasts for the expressed purpose of acetic acid production. Sixty yeast strains belonging to these, and several other genera, from the ARS Culture Collection, Peoria, IL, w...
